At the end of last year, while another teacher was covering my class while I was at the dentist, one of my students sent out a very inappropriate picture with a message via email to several members of the class. Some of those members responded with inappropriate comments and/or other pictures. My sub. suspected what was going on. Their emails were all pulled by our technology department. I was appalled and very disappointed in this student with whom I had an excellent teacher/student rapport. He was given a consequence, as far as I know, but I think the worst punishment for him was my disappointment. He was mortified that I had seen the email. When he came to apologize (he wasn't forced to do this), we had a very productive talk regarding making mistakes while growing up. I reminded him to be careful with what he sent out to the public. We all made mistakes growing up, but we didn't publish our mistakes. Lesson learned.
