I understand that there are a variety of ways that digital media can be used inappropriately. I have been frustrated by the vulgar and hurtful text messages that my children have received. I am a high school teacher so I have been witnessed or been involved in the hurt and anger that my students have experienced by mean and cutting text messages. However, when my 3rd grader daughter was send a message with the f-word and a hate message, I was thrown. My daughter was using the family iPad and a classmate of her was frustrated with my daughter so she sent a text through iMessage. I was disappointed that this gift I had purchased for the family was bringing such hurt and frustration into my home. It is one of the reasons that I believe strongly in helping students be educated about appropriate use of digital media.
