Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Here are some examples from our school.  It is important to teach ethics and copyright.  It will make a difference for some students.

Right after the movie American Sniper was released, I saw a student with the full video on his computer.  I don't know for sure where he got it, but it was downloaded illegally.  The MPAA has been known to contact schools if they have knowledge this has been done on a school's campus.

Another student downloaded a copy of an expensive software package illegally.  This was before more controls were in place to prevent installation of such items.

A third student had her phone stolen and the thief sent a naked picture the phone's owner had of herself on her phone to everyone in her address book, including her father.  She asked everyone to delete it when she got her phone back and they said they would but of course not everyone probably did and the photo is out there.

A former student recently told me that before she applied for her new job, she cleaned up her facebook a bit.  Her new employer told her they did check her out on Facebook before she was hired.
