Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

I had a student once post an inappropriate picture taken in a school restroom that was then shared across social media, eventually making its way to teachers/administration. This made the student feel scared, betrayed, embarrassed, and hurt. As teachers it made us feel embarrassed that we unknowingly had a student with their phone on them during school when that was not part of our school's policy. When other students shared the post, they were not disciplined, and that could have sent a message had they been. Had the students who shared the post been disciplined, it could have served as a message to all students that sharing the inappropriate photo was a violation of that student's privacy. Cracking down on this could prevent future instances of sharing and promote reporting in to a school authority.
