When I was in college one of my friends met this wonderful girl online, but she lived 45 minutes away. They talked on the phone, texted and chatted online frequently. He thought she was the girl of his dreams. When they finally did meet he found out that most everything she had told him was a lie to see if he would believe it. She had been making up this "ideal girlfriend" from reading his social media. Needless to say my friend was, to say it mildly, incredibly angry and mad that someone would do this just to see if they could. Some people are mean and spiteful just to see if they can do it.
Said friend since has found a better significant other and is happily married.
