A student of mine entered a video contest that was judged with social media votes. She was very excited and watched the votes pile up. Suddenly she noticed an unbelievable number of votes for one of her competitors. The other person was apparently using some sort of a bot to garnish votes. This ruined the validity of the contest and jaded my student's opinion of such contests. I don't know if there is a way to prevent such a thing from the student end.
