Inappropriate Use

I see so many inappropriate uses of social media in my life, both involving and not involving my students. One of the offenses I find most shocking, though, is when parents get involved. I think social media came on so quickly in our culture that there was no generation to model appropriate use to the youth that grew up with it suddenly available. Children and teens are inappropriate, but when I see things that the parents post, I understand why those young people act the way they do. Even adults don't understand appropriate use - I see parents ranting about the school, about a teacher, about their family, or shockingly about other people's kids. It is hard to imagine why they find this acceptable, but I think it all boils down to social media coming on so quickly in our lives - many never had a chance to sort out how to behavior properly.
