A student posted a facebook message about another student in the lunchroom making fun of her eating habits. This resulted in a down and out fist fight in the hallway at the end of the school day involving a large group of people. Feelings were hurt, school policy regarding cellphone usage was broken, teacher resources to break up the fight, distraction and minor injury. This could have been avoided with some individual dialogue regarding digital citizenship. Clearly, guidelines for appropriate technology usage were not enough for this incident.
