Inappropriate use digital media

Unfortunately as a high school educator I see inappropriate use of digital media daily. Some teenagers are very responsible users of digital media, however, the majority of students do not make the connection between casual photos and indiscretion and future college plans and careers. Instagram, facebook, sexting and assorted social media provide a permanent record for children and parents to consider when planning for the future. Another area of consideration is how digital media is used for academic cheating, one example I can provide is that our math department has documented children taking photos on cell phones of tests and then sharing the tests with other students.  Teachers can help shape a responsible approach to appropriate use of digital media, however parents and the society at large will determine the impact of digital media in the future.
