Inappropriate use of Digital Media

While I was living in Texas, a TikTok challenge of students vandalizing bathrooms came out. Our school was (one of) the unfortunate victims of this challenge.  Due to the extreme destruction, students were required to use only the bathroom in the main office with a supervisor waiting outside. This made several students upset (as they were not guilty) and made teachers increasingly frustrated as we lost valuable class time, due to how long it took.  I am not sure what we could have done differently, but I think this is where we as teachers (or parents) need to step in to remind students there are consequences to their online actions.  

I don't want this to sound hateful by any means. This is one of the reasons I don't have a TikTok. I have seen more negative things than positive from that app. I do believe parents need to be more involved in what their child is seeing and doing on social media. Kids are seeing all of these "challenges" that can be danger and/or hurtful from an adults point of view, but the kids think these these challenges are funny because they are immature and don't think about negative outcomes.
