Students can be very impulsive about what they do and say. Prior to the digital age, where social media is such a large part of a young person's life, kids would say or spread rumors and they would be that. Now, with posting thoughts about rumors or gossip, kids' thoughts become lasting and widely read. There was an instance where two groups of 7th graders had a battle on Facebook. Comments were made, replied to, and shared. After some time passed, a day or so, parents got wind of the nasty things being typed. Students tried to delete the posts but they didn't realized the they can be saved and shared. They had to learn the hard way that gossip and rumors spread online can be used against them because there is lasting proof of their negative actions.
