Share a time when you or someone you know was the recipient of an inappropriate use of digital media or when you might have used digital media in an inappropriate manner. How did this make you or others feel? What might have been done differently?
Several instances of this come to mind. At school students have access to a student email account, there have been situations when someone has sent a mass email stating inappropriate things about other students. There have also been occasions where a student has stolen another students password and logged on as them. And of course there has been times when students have tried to access inappropriate content at school.
Also in the classroom, there are always instances of students trying to use their phones when they should not be. I think they simplest way to handle this is to set firm rules and consistent consequences for those actions. We have recently went to a 1:1 situation and this just puts more devices in the hands of students. However, I think the same policy abides, a teacher needs to clearly state when it is appropriate and not appropriate to use them, and have clear consequences for when they choose not to follow the rules.
