Just a few weeks ago we had an incident that got out of control on twitter at the High School in my district. There was a non-school sanctioned "event" that went on during homecoming week. Athletes were told by administrators that if they participated there would be clear consequences, which were laid out ahead of time. Some student took a video at the event and it ended up getting shared with administration. When the students got in trouble, the student body started tweeting the names of 2 students (who ended up weren't even at the event) had told. Twitter erupted with hateful speech and even threats towards these students. It was incredibly disruptive and many friendships were damaged or lost that day.
