Instagram and Education

Instagram is an interesting education tool and one that when first presented I wasn't sure if I saw the connection. However, I remembered that my school district actually has a instagram hashtag to highlight the amazing things that are happening with students, schools, and within the district. I think that instagram can be used in this cool way. Setting a universal hashtag for a district can allow many to connect and share cool things that are going on. Additionally, I think that different organizations and groups can use instagram to also connect with others about what they are doing.

Some hashtags that stood out to me:
#walkthetalk , the Waukee school district hashtag that highlights cool happenings.
#edchat , is a hashtag that many education professionals use when posting educational related posts.

Some instagram accounts:
https://www.instagram.com/waukeearrowhead/ , the newspaper of the high school I work at's page that highlights the stories that they are reporting on.
https://www.instagram.com/neatoday/ , National Education Association on instagram. Includes inspirational quotes, highlights different professionals, and re blogs from other professionals.

Learning more about how hashtags function gives me plenty of ideas. I'd like to do more to build community relationships between our high school students who are ready to hit the job market and the local businesses who are in need of skilled and qualified new employees. We could share our accomplishments via Twitter with local businesses.
