Internet Safety - Facebook

C. LeAnn Mackey
Privacy settings on Facebook make you feel like you are only sharing information with your friends but in reality, you need to check those settings regularly. A person gets out of the car and locks it, a person locks the door as they leave their home, likewise you should check your "locks" on social media often. Set up a schedule to reexamine your settings weekly.

Great analogy.  Not only do I lock my house and my car - I double check to make sure I have.  Not always the case with the Social media sites I use.

I agree.  We should not only be checking our  settings when using Facebook, but we should encourage our students to check on a regular basis, just to make sure everything is still the way we think it was when the account was set up.  I also think it is important to emphasize to the students that once info, pictures, etc.. are "out there" we can not take them back.  Be super careful what you post!
