Internet Safety- Nicole Welch

I looked at Facebook. I think one of the scariest things for kids is to have their location turned on. No one, not even their friends need to know where they are constantly. My daughter did go to New York with her band last year. I had her turn it on, but only for one friend to see. Just in case they were to get separated. They can also have all their personal information posted for anyone they are friends with to see. Personal information should not be shared online. My kids have just started to get social media. Several years ago my daughter sent a message to someone she thought was famous. She only had Pinterest at the time. Luckily, nothing came of it. But I deleted social media off her phone and blocked the number. She did not understand how badly that could have turned out. That meant she was not ready for the responsibility. I learned something too, because I didn't realize Pintrest was more than saving sites and recipes. I've also tried to reiterate to my own children never friend people you don't know, not even acquaintances. I also have told them not to post pictures of themselves. Another thing I have been more aware of, is when posting pictures don't do it till your home. Especially when you are on vacation. Otherwise, you have just announced that your home is vacant for a while.
