I looked and am a member of facebook.
I believe that the privacy settings are a way to protect from people creeping your facebook. I believe that the profile can be extrememly secure if wanted. You can just have your friends view your profile, or you could have friends of friends, or even public viewing. I believe that it is important as an educator, that I am careful as to what to put on my profile. The problem is that I can't control what pictures others tag me in to post on facebook.
I also have a Google+ account. That account is only used within my school district, so it is solely for the benefit of my colleges to send me teaching materials and information about the units we are working on. It is very secure and easy to use. LV7TV
