I have facebook and twitter. I use Facebook for keeping up with family and friends. I like to keep it light and entertaining. I prefer not to be drug into controversial topics and political and social controversies. For one thing...it is my business and for another...I don't feel that as an educator I need to explain or justify myself to parents of students and even my administrators. I was a bit surprised with the information that is available in my facebook settings. Most of mine were set to friends only...but I did have my phone and email available to all...so I changed that. I am most concerned that my students are barely able to use facebook...some have it without meeting the age guideline...but can I really police that? On the other hand, I can remind them the importance of using their facebook accounts in an appropriate and private manner.
