I went onto Facebook and made sure that my profile was completely private and only viewed by those that I am friends with. Options to be safe on facebook include making anything that anyone tags you in needs to be approved by you before posting to your wall, making sure your location settings are off so facebook doesn't have your location on. And also going thru your friends list to make sure you know everyone on it and are comfortable all of the "friends" knowing any information you are posting such as being out of town on a vacation or your whereabouts, etc.
