Internet Safety

Kathleen Noeth
It is actually pretty scary that I had never even looked at the privacy settings of my Twitter account.  Although I only use it for professional purposes and every now and then a shout out to anything great that happens with Harlan Cyclone Wrestling, it was interesting to see what settings were actually available.  The very first setting in Twitter allows you to verify login requests.  I am going to enable this feature for myself because then I will know if anyone has tried to log in as me.  I can imagine that my sons and most of the young people using Twitter have no idea that this feature even exists.  I do not currently have a Facebook account, but after watching the video in this section, I believe that I will.  That way, I can explore the safety and privacy settings there, as well as protect myself from someone creating an account in my name.  I know that my son's account was hacked by someone who posted inappropriate material.  After reading this section and watching the video, I will encourage him to contact the Facebook site administrators to report this.  I know that he deleted his account, but he should still report it.  Another important privacy setting in Twitter deals with people being allowed to tag you in Tweets.  I checked the box so that no one is allowed to tag me in photos.  This is frightening that anyone could have tagged me prior to the changing of this setting.

I noticed that in Facebook, you request to tag someone now.  You can't just tag them. I realize that people can still tag you, but it has to be the person who put the picture on the site,I think.

Thanks for the explanation on your Twitter account. I use/created mine for professional use also. Now I have changed my setting to private also! I also learned how to block inappropriate followers as well as accepting my followers on Twitter.
