I looked at my Facebook settings. I was fairly private but I am still searchable through friends of friends. (Which can spiral to a large list.) I am fairly inactive on social media, rarely posting or reacting though.
I do think students need to understand the far reaching effects of social media and how allowing friends of friends to view/search can be quite a large group, even if you do not have a large friend group. After looking at some of my "friends" on facebook, I noticed one "friend" had over 2,000 people that he was connected to.
