I explored Facebook's privacy settings since that is the social networking platform that I use the most. I think their settings leave a lot of control in the hands on the users, but if you do not know to look for them or change them, it could leave you incredibly vulnerable.
Making sure you are protecting yourself and your information by setting some options to "Only Me" is a great way to feel secure, and limiting who can find you both on the site and through search engines is incredibly important. There are also a lot of options for blocking individuals in a variety of ways (sending you messages or requests, or seeing you at all) as well as apps and groups, that I think people may overlook or forget about.
