In the Social Media class offered through the AEA, I had to set up accounts and check privacy settings on a variety of platforms. I have a Twitter account. I follow a few users, but I do not tweet. Facebook is the platform I use the most. I am careful about what I post. I have my privacy settings at the highest level.
The information that is shared with others and everyone being able to locate a person are two areas that students should be aware of. Students should understand the difference in sharing with friends, sharing with friends of friends, and sharing with everyone. How people can find you on Facebook by email address or phone number is also an important setting to protect your privacy.
