Internet Safety

Stefanie Neumer
Occasionally, I use Facebook and reviewed my privacy settings. Everything was set as I had hoped. I am always careful what is posted regarding personal information on myself or my children, but I do use Facebook as a way to share with family and friends. Unfortunately, I have seen many people share their personal information such as kid's school, when and where they are going on vacation, etc.

I also use Facebook as a way to share with family and friends. But my sister actually made me realize that she never posts about her vacations until she returns home - just so her place isn't robbed.

Hi Jessica! I love your sister's point! It's something my students and I talk a lot about in our computer safety unit and they definitely don't like my suggestion to not post until after a vacation. They argue it takes "all of the fun away!" but I agree with your sister, and am glad I'm not the only one. I must admit, though, as my "memories" pop up in social media, I wasn't always that way. I've been seeing lots of posts I made while I was on vacation rather than afterwards. I'm thankful nothing bad ever happened, and glad to have learned this lesson the easy way, rather than the hard way. :)
