I explored Instagram. I do have my Instagram set to public because I also own a business outside of my teaching career. I want to remain public for those reasons and I am very self-aware of the fact that parents and students alike can follow me and see what I am sharing so I make sure that anything I post and share is something I am okay with people in my educational setting seeing and reading. Self awareness and professionalism is important in both areas so what I share always aligns with my personal values and is not going to negatively impact a student if he or she would choose to follow me. Most of my students are young enought that they don't have social media anyway.
