At Iowa BIG, we embrace the use of the Internet as a tool for social justice and personal brand promotion. We coach students on how to create a personal website that highlights the awesome work they've been doing, while also helping them to discern between information that should not be shared.
We also focus on showing them the permanent nature of the internet using
https://archive.org/web/ and we also hack adblockers to show how different browsers collect personal information without asking (beyond a tiny line in the usage agreement)
We also teach about encryption and how to run code on a server, which helps the students understand why certain links can be dangers (like phishing) and other links can't be.
