I explored settings in a Facebook account. It was a little overwhelming to see all of the different preferences that could be modified. I thought I had checked "friends only", and then I realized there are multiple places to check the "friends only" option. I likely missed one. I can see how one might skip over the set-up process and assume all would be selected for the most private and secure.
