Internet Safety

Shawn Blin
What social networking site did you explore and what settings in that site should users be aware? Explore other participants thoughts to see if any of them apply to any social networking sites you or your students may be using.

I looked over the privacy settings on my facebook account. There are quite a few different options and it's easy to see where someone would just skip over these and not want to deal with them. For the most part it is probably your best bet to set everything to friends only. There are even settings about who can find you from a phone number or name search, as well as an option to limit outside searches such as google from linking to your facebook account. I have had many students try to "friend me" on facebook and my response is always "no, not until you graduate" and even then I set them up as restricted friends, to limit their access to my page.

I also know apps like twitter have the option to make posts only available to fiends and not public.
