I had virtually no experience with social media until I recently took a class that focused on social media and using it in the classroom. As I went through the class I was amazed at the amount of information you could learn about someone using social media. I have since created a Twitter account and have made sure to have the privacy settings cranked up. There are certainly some very useful and practical reasons for using social media, drawing attention and making friends are not two of the reasons for me using it.
