Hello,
I did not think of a needed age for social media, and so your message was an eye-opener. I just presumed that students made up an age to get on social media if needed, and that hopefully most parents monitored their student social media use (wishful thinking). You sparked my interest on age requirements for all of social media. I looked up age requirements from Common Sense Media. They also said, like you said, that the magic number is 13 years of age. Evidentially age requirements for social media fall under COBRA or the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. I am glad you brought up the age requirement. Now, I will be more alert to that magical number when talking to younger students, who claim to use social media. I wonder if anyone monitors age requirements for social media, or is it up to we educators and parents?
