I checked out my twitter account. What I did was go through my followers to see just how many of them I knew and did not know. I would estimate that at least 1/3 of the people who read my tweets on a regular basis I have never meet in person. For most students I would guess this would be a similar number. It is important to not give out to personal of information because obviously not just the people that you don't know who follow you can see them, they can be shared or simply viewed by many who don't even follow.
