I choose to explore Facebook. I do not use Facebook but my two high school kids do. In looking at theirs I was pleased to see that they were pretty secure but it did lead to discussion about their settings and safety on a site such as this. Knowing how unsafe social media sites can be, we as educators need to know that many of the youth we work with have sites such as this. There are probably thousands of students below the required age of 13 that have Facebook and are not developmentally mature enough to handle such a site safely and responsibly. Knowing that students will continue to access such sites, intensifies the need for us to educate kids on the dangers and proper use of technology.
