Today our world has portrayed that technology is "the norm" and young children are believing it is the norm. Children at young ages do not have the maturity level to understand the power that is at their own finger tips with technology. I believe parents and teachers have the responsibility to provide teaching to children beginning at a very young age and continuing up to adult hood about the appropriate use, and safety of technology. It should be our responsibility to be the overseers of the technology use and know what our children's eyes are viewing at home, at school, and outside of the home. Children in schools should be taught technology use and safety tips just like we teach them safety about tornado drills, fire drills, bullying, drugs/medicine, etc.. Parents should have the right to know what technology their child has access to in the classrooms, what apps or websites they are using, the amount of time that is being spent, what the educational objective is, and should know out of the time that their child is on an educational learning game/app how much of it is gaming and how much are they actually practicing a skill. Parents have the responsibility to supervise the use of technology in our homes by setting rules, boundaries, and limits. We have to help them understand the power of the tools that are at their fingertips both the good and the bad to help them develop into responsible digital citizens.
