I am a preschool teacher, so for our students, financial literacy means learning to count.  They are learning how to count, what number is bigger, how many more, etc.  So if we were talking about money, we might give them 5 blocks and tell them to go buy something with their five blocks.  If the "price" on something was 7 blocks, we would ask them if they have enough to buy that item.  Some of the higher level preschool students may even be able to tell you how many more they would need.  We could have a discussion about what do you need to go buy food at the store.  They are just beginning to understand that you have to buy things with money.  You cannot just take it.
