The three readings discuss the benefits of art in the classroom using statistics and comparisons. The benefits are valid, children grow socially and emotionally different when they are used with teaching. Standardised testing does not measure each child to the extent of his/her ability whether it is a language barrier or simple test anxiety. The statistics generated were amazing showing a higher percent of those who were more engaged in learning and enjoying it. The students who experienced integrated arts certainly seemed to have a better understanding and enjoyment of lessons than those who were in an arts enhanced class.
The connections I would like to make in my classroom may start out small and grow with time but I got some neat ideas like using music during certain times in the day and incorporating it into drawing or writing. I have used kinesthetic learning with reader's theatre and the kids loved it. It not only brought out their own behaviors but they found themselves working together and making a social connection. I loved the idea of using art to show feeling during a certain moment in time or era.
