We had a student from our school shared a photo of himself with a fake gun on social media with a message to a student. The post was meant to be funny, as they were gaming together. Since it was posted with our school device. It resulted and a suspension and the police.
This experience was not surprising to me as our middle schoolers don't always think before they post and to not always know that digital actions can affect others. Obviously, as a district we took this seriously and dealt with the student. With all of the "gossip" going around I began sending out information to our district teachers to re emphasize that we are a zero tolerance district, even though this was a digital confrontation.
