Show students the picture of a floating balloon. Ask them to think about what they know about balloons, how they move, what they look like and what happens when it pops.
Students will start on the ground and shape their body into a balloon that has no air in it. As they slowly fill with air how will their bodies start to move. Be creative, your shape is changing your size is changing. Now that the balloon is filled the wind picks up and they begin to move around the room. What will that look like?Let the students creatively move around the room pretending to be a balloon. After a while The wind picks up and the balloons begin to blow around in all sorts of pathways and directions, moving at a fast speed and spinning around. What for unique movements. Until POP ! the balloon hits a tree branch and all the air comes out. We all fall to the ground and stop moving.
This lesson is teacher directed and can be used with music that begins slow and gradually gets faster as the lesson moves forward. Discuss how the students felt as they were blowing around the room. Did they feel like a balloon they had seen before.
