Lesson for Creativity Ashley Gremore

Agremore
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Subject: Social Studies
Objective: Students will explore the use of art materials by creating an Earth Day shaving cream project and writing one thing they can do to help our Earth.

VA:Cr2.1.1a Explore uses of materials and tools to create works of art or design.

Materials:
Shaving cream, blue and green paint, art tray, stray, popsicle stick, paper plate, writing paper, pencils, construction paper.

Sequence:
1. Read story Michael Recycle by Ellie Bethel
2. Talk about the importance of Earth Day
3 Show students picture of “hands” holding up the Earth - provide sentence stems to ask students what this could mean.  
4. Students discuss how we can help the Earth with their “hands” by Think, Pair, Share technique.  
5. Teacher models shaving cream art project using doc cam
6. Teacher models writing a sentence using the stem “I can help the Earth by…”
7. Groups of students complete shaving cream art project with teacher while others work on their sentence independently.
8. Students glue their writing and project together on a construction paper.
9. Following activity students share their sentence and project.


Assessment/Evaluation
Informal verbal assessment - is student able to recall what their sentence says, can they explain why that can help the Earth. Sharing of art project to class.
