10 Black Dots
This lesson will be used during Math as we learn about shapes and numbers.
Materials:
Construction paper
crayons
markers
glue
Black circle pre made by the teacher.
Teacher will show the front of the book to students. She will ask the students to raise their hand to share something they notice about the book.
Teacher will call on students to respond. Once a student mentions black dots, she will talk to students about the shape of the dots.
Teacher will read the book "Ten black dots" by Donald Crew.
Teacher will do a picture walk with students to show them the book and again what they notice on the pages.
Teacher will read the book to students.
Teacher will have students share what their favorite part of the book was to a partner.
Teacher will explain the art activity to students.
Teacher will show the students that they get to pick 1 piece of construction paper and as many black dots and they would like (no more than 10).
Students will create whatever they want using the black dots, they will be encouraged to think of something that was not shown in the book. They will glue the dots on the paper and transform them into whatever picture they want.
Students will Share their creations with the class when they are finished!
