Molly,
It was refreshing reading your paper.  I teach MS Science 6-8.  The students are impatient to begin with and then throw in Inquiry Based learning on content they don't know much about and they are given minimal directions and materials...I got looks and disappointment when I would tell them, "You can figure it out."  "You are going to be okay.  Have confidence and explore and observe what is going on."

Every year it is the same thing.  It takes a lot of encouraging words and giving them the confidence that they can be successful and it is OKAY to be wrong and its okay to struggle while you are learning.

Molly,

I enjoyed reading your paper. Your experience with inquiry based learning in math is so interesting. Most students aren't a huge fan of math but to have it be the favorite time of the day is just proof for inquiry based learning. You had some great points in your research. I agree with your views in favor of inquiry based learning.
