New Teachers & Getting to Know You Tools

Beth Globokar
I frequently ask the question, "Where was Pinterest when I was a new teacher?"  From bulletin boards to easy ice breakers to anti-bullying messages and classroom rules, Pinterest is a great tool for teachers.  Most recently, I found it interesting that my children (in a 1:1 setting) were asked to do a "Getting to Know You" project (remember the "All About Me" Posters?) using Pinterest.  What used to take hours or days now is simple -- have a student (13 or older!) start a Pinterest Page and ask each student to Pin "X" number of items in each of the following categories:
Hobbies
Favorite Foods
School Activities
Mottos for Life
Family
In a short amount of time, you can learn a lot about a student from three to five pins!  This year we're going to do the same thing with our teachers during in-service to get to know each other!
