Norms & Responsibilities

Jenny Moser
There is a lot to consider when establishing digital responsibility in the classroom. As was indicated in the video, we are pioneers so most of the rights and responsibilities that we are forming are being shaped on the spot. My subject area requires the students to have full access to the internet when they conduct research projects, and I value this wealth of information since I did not grow up with the internet. However, it is always a concern with how easy it seems for students to "copy and paste" with little to no sense that that action is stealing. Much time is spent on lessons for citing textual evidence and sources correctly, but through this course I hope to find and create more valuable ways to expose students to the risks of plagiarism and to create a sense of obligation when citing internet sources.

I agree, Jenny.  In my subject, students find it easy to "copy / paste" from a translator without knowing that using a translator is cheating when writing in Spanish.  Students need to be taught about plagiarism at a younger age since the internet is so much at their fingertips.
