Norms and Responsibilites

embrock
I think the first major right should include privacy of personal information.  The digital world has created a whole new world of access to personal information with plentiful opportunities to misuse/abuse this information.  There a solid laws that exist that protect you and your privacy, but there are also way too many predators lurking to steal your personal information.  I think this is where the importance of digital citizenship come into play.  We need educate our students and our society to appropriately protect their personal information.

Second, I believe there should be more free access to the internet for all people.  The digital age is creating an economic digital divide and allow opportunities for inequity.  There are many utilities and services that are provided for free, so why not internet access?  Free and fair access levels the playing field and helps break down unfair barriers for our society.

As far as responsibilities are concerned, we have a long ways to go.  We need to teach our students and society how to appropriately use and access technologies and digital tools.  This class seems to address many of the areas that all people need to learn to help protect ourselves and society.
