My mind keeps coming back to a discussion I've had with a group of students regarding the freedom of speech and expression subject. Freedom of speech does not include freedom of repercussions or consequences of your words or actions. As has been pointed out, the internet is forever. Once something is out there, it's there forever. I think a big part of digital citizenship must include education of rights and responsibilities as well as potential repercussions of not being a good digital citizen. Like many others have expressed, there is a false sense of security in anonymity to abandon appropriate behavior from the safety of a computer keyboard. Cause and effect in terminology and examples our students can connect to is needed.
