Norms and Responsibilities -Fulton

I believe that websites and social media platforms should have to explicitly explain and show what information is being gathered from the user.  While these platforms use this information to help make a better "user experience" so that the user sees the information / stories that pertain to them.  The user is often left unaware that these companies may sell or give information to other companies or even use it to alter the information that the user sees.  

I HATE that my information is used and sold.  I have noticed that there are boxes one can check to opt out of their information being sold for those that live in California.  I love that CA is progressive like that, why aren't other states doing the same? I remember a few years ago a presidential candidate that is really into tech was talking about making citizens in charge of their data and what could be bought/sold.  The premise behind it was that companies are making billions of dollars with everyone's data and that WE THE PEOPLE should be paid for that data instead.
