Norms and Responsibilities

Aklett
The right to privacy online is an interesting “norm” for me. I think for students it’s valuable to teach the lesson on what is and isn’t safe to post by yourself online. Most will understand the value in that. But, the harder area of privacy to understand/ educate is to recognize what information you should and shouldn’t be giving to companies who store your information online. In some ways, it is a given in this day and age that your information (address, ssn, phone, etc.) is going to be stolen in a data breach at some point. I think the responsibility to protect this information by the companies who store it online should be greater than it is.

I absolutely agree that businesses/sites should have stronger practices put in place. I feel like the sites I use online should fight for their customers. I want to continue to use the sites so in return it would be nice to know they make my safety a priority.
