The most important norm that I feel needs to be implemented is the right to privacy. Users of any platform have the right to share or not share their information to other parties. It's not up to the platform to dictate that. Especially in regards to minors. Minors privacy should always be protected. I feel many social media platforms fail to do that for fear of losing advertisers but that then subjects our children to products and videos they probably should not be looking at.
I feel the right to free speech is vitally important. However, more must be done to combat the bullying, harassment, abuse, and hate speech that is widespread in the digital world. People should not be allowed to use free speech as a means to harass or demean a person or a group of people. Respect and responsibility in the digital world needs to be taught in schools and expected when one is in the digital world.
Laws must catch up to the advancement of technology. Federal and State laws as they currently stand are not equipped to handle the constant progression of the digital world. Congress and State Legislators must be willing to do everything in their power to update the laws in their books to include protections in the digital world.
