Norms and Responsibilities

vincemcgee
In terms of user rights, individuals should be free to express their opinions.  This is particularly true here in the United States where the first amendment is in place.  But with those rights come the responsibility on the part of the digital citizen that they cannot write things that threaten violence or are against the law.  In working with children in a school setting, they don't always understand that what they put on line is forever and that the "digital world" is in fact the "real world" with real consequences for what is put online.

Norms should be freedom of speech.  Responsibilities teaching young people the ripple effect of their posts in various online sources.  Disruption to the school day, bullying, inappropriate context/pictures and so on.  Also that there are consequences in the digital world.
