As the use of technology is increasing, it is more important for teachers to educate explicitly on students' responsibilities in the digital world.
Students need to know that the freedom of speech doesn't mean they can say anything. There are appropriate and inappropriate things that can be said. Similarly, inappropriate comments can have negative implications on them.
Students need to understand copyright and what is considered "stealing" of information in relation to the digital world.
Students need to understand what content is and is not appropriate.
Students need to know how to protect themselves on the internet, with a clear idea of information that is and is not okay to share.
Finally, students need to know how to check for validity of information. Oftentimes, students are quick to accept anything as factual, but they need to learn discernment and ways to decide if information is true.
