Students become short-sited when using digital information as they often use knee-jerk thinking and ignoring any possible consequences. I try to role model the norms and responsibilities and teach that along with my lesson plans. The first amendment allows us the freedom to express ourselves, but along with that we need to be aware of our citizenship and responsibilities of these rights. With every choice a student makes, there needs to be an emphasis that going digital is permanent and cannot be erased by the delete button. Respect digital freedom by using it responsibly. Remember those you share it with need to also be responsible as your post influences your future jobs, friendships, education and future life. Bullying and cyberbullying is not appropriate in the behavior of those who use technology. There are consequences that go with that kind of behavior.
